Cnet had a blog entry about a Caltech study which claims that humans evolved color sight in order to see emotions, NOT as previously thought, to assess the ripeness of fruit. It's a fascinating theory and starts to mke you think about the importance of emotion to survival. Color sight has to require fairly intense brain cycles. It's another data point about how critical emotion is for us.
